Introduction: Water conservation strategies can only be effective if people choose to adopt them. Yet, the reasons individuals resist participating in conservation efforts are often complex and not immediately obvious, underscoring the critical role of social science in understanding human behavior. Drawing on over a decade of research into what drives conservation actions, this presentation will explore human factors that influence, or prevent, water-saving behaviors in urban landscapes.
Our Presenter: Dr. Laura Warner, is a professor in the University of Florida Department of Agricultural Education and Communication and the Center for Land Use Efficiency. As a quantitative social scientist, Dr. Warner specialized in understanding behavioral influences on adoption of best practices among key target audiences and translating behavioral theory into practical action. She focuses on water conservation, pollinator protection, and technology adoption in residential landscapes, public spaces, and nursery/greenhouse operations.
