Landscape Gardener Full Time Postition
Auxiliary Services is looking for a responsible individual for accomplishing all duties that pertain to landscape maintenance, gardening and the operation of equipment necessary to maintain the campus. Occasional on call hours.
Responsibilities:
Controls weeds with integrated pest management best practices. Apply herbicides by means of power or hand sprayers. Operates grounds equipment of various types including line trimmers, edgers, blowers, chain saws, hand and power sprayers, light trucks, dump trucks, side by side utility vehicles, power push mowers, ride on mowers, tractors, loaders, limb chippers and related tools and equipment. Maintains lawns by completing essential tasks such as: fertilizing, mowing, edging, seeding, sodding, aerating, and other related activities that contribute to good lawn care. Prepares for seeding and transplanting by cultivating the soil, watering, weeding and adding fertilizer and chemicals depending on the nature of the soil and the requirements of the plants. The incumbent is responsible for the health, care and appearance of a variety of trees and shrubs. He/she is also required to know the common names of trees, shrubs, monocots, and dicots. Perform snow removal with plow, snow blower and shovel. Functions as a trainer in certain circumstances, by training new employees and in carrying out other assignments as directed by the Supervisor. Also, may work with and act as a lead worker over seasonal help. Ensures that all grounds maintenance, including snow removal, within assigned area is accomplished in accordance with University and department policies and procedures. Ensures that seasonal tasks are completed expediently and efficiently in order to preserve the beauty of the campus and provide a safe environment for the University community.
