Introduction: From the floods of 1983 to the shrinking Great Salt Lake in 2023, the last 40 years have seen great changes in how water is viewed, conserved, managed, and used in Utah. This presentation will discuss this history from the perspective of landscape water use, including some of the research, education, and extension programs used to promote conservation. It will also address what has worked, what has not, and what the future might hold.

Our Presenter: Dr. Larry Rupp is a native of Utah who grew up enjoying the benefits of irrigation in a dry climate. He is an Emeritus Professor of Landscape Horticulture at Utah State University, where he led the Center for Water Efficient Landscaping and supported statewide water conservation efforts. He is widely recognized for his leadership in landscape water conservation and for his contributions to research, outreach, and public education across Utah
